The Aesthetica Creative Writing Award is an international literary prize that is a hotbed for new talent in Poetry and Short Fiction. Now in its 14th year, the Prize supports both emerging and established writers. By entering, writers can showcase their work to key industry figures and organisations including The Poetry Society, Granta, VINTAGE and more.

Winners are selected for both categories and awarded with £1,000. Publication within the Aesthetica Creative Writing Anthologyis also awarded to a further 60 writers whose works are highly commended.

Aesthetica is proud to champion new writing talent and supports its writing alumni beyond the Prize, offering print and digital publicity and continued exposure across our channels.

Welcome to CRAFT’s first flash fiction contest for unpublished stories up to 1,000 words!

Guest judge Benjamin Percy will select three winning stories and each receive:

  • $1,000 award & a bundle of the Rose Metal Press Field Guides
  • Publication in CRAFT, with an introduction by Benjamin Percy, and an Author’s Note (craft essay) to accompany the story
  • A micro-interview with our flash fiction section editor, Tommy Dean

Plus an editors’ choice round—we’ll be awarding $150 and publication to four stories we just can’t let go.

Pen AmericaGrants & Fellowships

Since 1963, the PEN America Literary Awards, Grants, and Fellowships Program has honored many of the most outstanding voices in literature across diverse genres, including fiction, poetry, nonfiction, children’s literature, translation, and drama. With the help of our partners, PEN America confers distinct grants each year to support writers and works-in-progress in diverse genres including translation, YA and middle grade writing, and oral history. PEN America also offers a robust national program of fellowships for emerging writers and writing for justice. In addition, PEN America provides community engagement funding to Members, writers, and allies to support activity around press freedom defense, the intersections of literature and advocacy, and the defense of free expression more broadly.
