Charley Valera

Charley ValeraAuthor Charley Valera has always had a fascination with WWII and its effects on the soldiers and their families. Valera’s father was a WWII veteran and, like most of us, he never asked what life was like during the war. Years after his father passed away, forever taking his stories with him, Valera was determined to document the lives of other WWII veterans. My Father’s War: Memories from Our Honored WWII Soldiers covers both theaters and all branches of war during WWII.  This book features more than a hundred personal photos and stories from WWII veterans. These are their firsthand accounts. How they beat back the bile in their throats to complete their dangerous missions. Finally, one source to learn about their lives and why WWII was my father’s war. Now an award-winning documentary.

Charley Valera has appeared on NBC/NECN, WPRI and other TV outlets. He’s been featured in magazines, newspapers and radio throughout the country. Valera writes articles and blogs for various media on topics from WWII, real estate and aviation. A licensed commercial pilot, Realtor, author, filmmaker, public speaker, father of two boys and husband to Cheryl, they live in southwest Florida. He can be reached through

I’m hoping you remember me. I attended my first Gulf Writers meeting in January. My wife and I live in Irving Texas but bought a place in Pelican Bay last March.

I was hoping to make it back to Naples sooner but work and school have gotten crazy. I am in my last class before my thesis starts May 16 for my MFA in creative writing at LindenWood.

I plan on calling in to your talking publishing discussion I believe in May. I’m hoping with joining the Gulf Writers I am able to make good connections in the next couple years before we move to Naples full-time.

It’s trying to figure out the whole quarrying
to agents or find a small press. Looking forward to learning much from you in the future. Hope we can stay in communication.

The Southwest Florida Military Museum and Library has been and continues to be, an amazing wealth of knowledge. The Museum and the veterans that visit and proudly share their military lives, have made this building a living history for resource. During my years of researching for “My Father’s War: Memories from Our Honored WWII Soldiers” many museums were not
much more than static displays. However, as an author and filmmaker, the SWFL Military Museum and Library offers actual artifacts from US wars and conflicts, but also the rare opportunity to actually get first-hand discussions and confirmations in one place, making my research more accurate and complete.
Thank you SWFLMM&M for providing such a rare glimpse into our military veterans sacrifices.

I am the grant writer for the SWFMM&L
we are pursuing a Federal grant for $50,000 to help us establish archiving and digitization capabilities. University of South Florida students will be helping us.
A letter of support that we can attach to the grant app. from an arthor who who has done research here would help us tremendously. Thank you for your consideration in advance
